Political Literacy, Advocacy, Community Engagement & Development (PLACED) is an initiative inspired by our youth leaders here in the Durham region for actively engaging in the political process, advocacy and community development.
As you know, youth vote participation (see Elections Canada estimates) has been traditionally lower than their adult counterparts. Although there have been improvements at the federal level in the last election, the situation is abysmal at the provincial and municipal levels, we are hoping to improve this. In the long-term interest of socio-economic empowerment, we need to do whatever we can to encourage political literacy and engagement of our youth especially those who are racialized and underrepresented. This interactive information session will explore the what, when, where and how of voting in Canada. Youth and other supporters are welcome to attend.
